You can bury the physical remains of a Sith Lord, but you can never truly bury the dark side—because miles beneath the surface of Onderon, a centuries-old cult was waiting for the perfect moment to strike the Jedi Order from the shadows.

Intro

Greetings, my fellow Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herders, and welcome back to The Infernal Brotherhood!

When we last left the world of Onderon, the bloody Beast Wars had seemingly concluded with a joint Republic-Jedi victory. Queen Amanoa, who had been channeling the malevolent spirit of the ancient Dark Jedi King Freedon Nadd, was exposed and defeated by Jedi Master Arca Jeth’s powerful light side abilities. But as the Jedi quickly discovered, removing a tyrant from the throne doesn’t mean you’ve uprooted the rot buried deep within the planet’s foundations. Today, we open the Holocron on The Freedon Nadd Uprising of 3998 BBY. We are looking at how a routine funeral service transformed into a full-scale Sith rebellion that pushed young heroes like Ulic Qel-Droma to their absolute limits and brought legendary Jedi like Nomi Sunrider into the fray. Let’s dive in.

The Spark: The Funeral of Queen Amanoa

Following Queen Amanoa’s death, the city of Iziz was left in a fragile state of transition. Her daughter, Princess Galia, had married the Beast-Lord Oron Kira, theoretically uniting the two warring factions of the planet. But the dark side energy left behind by generations of Naddist rule was suffocating. Master Arca Jeth knew that as long as the massive, potent sarcophagi of Freedon Nadd and Queen Amanoa remained beneath the palace, Onderon would never truly know peace.

Jeth ordered the construction of a secure tomb made of nigh-impenetrable Mandalorian iron on Onderon’s nearby, dangerous jungle moon of Dxun. The plan was simple: isolate the dark side artifacts where the moon’s lethal fauna would act as natural deterrents against grave robbers.

But during the solemn funeral procession in the streets of Iziz, the ground literally shattered.

Interrupting the ceremony, a massive, terrifying, subterranean boring war machine erupted from miles beneath the city streets. This wasn’t a ragged band of leftover loyalists; this was a highly organized, heavily armored faction of the Naddist army. From the belly of the war machine poured waves of dark side adepts and Naddist soldiers. Leading the charge from the front lines was a towering, imposing figure encased in dark, alchemical armor: the Dark Jedi Warb Null.

The assault was a calculated ambush. While the Naddist troops distracted the young Jedi Knights—including Ulic and Cay Qel-Droma, and Tott Doneeta—their true, primary objective was achieved. The cultists seized the sarcophagi of Amanoa and Freedon Nadd, retreating back into the subterranean depths before the Jedi could mount an effective counter-offensive. Ulic Qel-Droma valiantly pursued them, clambering onto the descending war engine, but the dark siders slipped back into the black abyss of Onderon’s underworld.

The Deep Rot: King Ommin and the Captured Master

Desperate for answers, Ulic and the newly crowned Queen Galia sought out a hidden truth: Galia’s father, King Ommin, was actually still alive. Kept hidden away in a secret medical facility deep beneath the city, Ommin was a decrepit, withered husk of a man, physically broken by his heavy use of dark side sorcery but kept functional through a massive, grotesque life-support exoskeleton.

Master Arca Jeth and Ulic descended into the tunnels to consult the old king, believing him to be an innocent victim or a potential ally to help locate the stolen tombs. It was a catastrophic miscalculation.

The moment they arrived, the facade fell. King Ommin was not a victim; he was a fanatical dark side sorcerer completely in league with the lingering Force ghost of Freedon Nadd. Empowered by Nadd’s spirit, the crippled king unleashed a blinding, blistering torrent of Force lightning that caught Master Arca Jeth completely off guard, instantly subduing and incapacitating the powerful Arkanian Master.

Ulic drew his lightsaber, trying frantically to save his Master, but he was blocked by the massive form of Warb Null. What followed was a brutal, desperate lightsaber duel in the cramped, oppressive darkness of the underworld. Ulic channeled his immense focus and narrowly sliced through Null, killing the Dark Jedi commander. But the victory came too late. King Ommin, utilizing his mechanized armature, had already vanished deeper into his subterranean stronghold, taking the unconscious Arca Jeth as his prized prisoner.

Realizing they were completely outmatched and dealing with a planetary web of Sith magic, a devastated Ulic Qel-Droma sent out an urgent, emergency distress call to the Galactic Republic and the Jedi stronghold on Ossus. They needed a task force.

The Republic Intervenes & The Shadow of the Future

The response from the Jedi Order was massive. A strike team led by the exceptionally powerful Nomi Sunrider, alongside Jedi like Dace Diath, Qrrl Toq, and Shoaneb Culu, arrived alongside a fleet of Republic rocket jumpers.

By the time they arrived, Iziz was a war zone. The Naddists had brought out heavy artillery, utilizing Sith war droids and massive siege engines to assault the fortress citadel where the unified Beast Riders and remaining loyalists were holding the line. The battle was fierce and costly—the Jedi Knight Kith Kark was tragically killed by a stray cannon blast as the Jedi fought their way through the Naddist ranks. Nomi Sunrider deployed her legendary battle meditation to turn the tide, but King Ommin countered with his own dark psychic assault, temporarily knocking her unconscious.

Ultimately, a unified group of seven Jedi Knights—including Ulic, Cay, Nomi, and Tott—breached King Ommin’s subterranean stronghold. The fighting was savage; a Sith war droid even severed the arm of Ulic’s brother, Cay Qel-Droma, though Cay immediately struck it down in response.

When the Jedi finally confronted King Ommin, Ulic didn’t hesitate. With a swift strike of his lightsaber, he sliced away the mechanical armature supporting the dark sorcerer, sending the old king tumbling to the floor, where his frail body succumbed to the dark side forces that had been unnaturally sustaining him.

But the true chills came right as Ommin died. The shimmering, malevolent Force ghost of Freedon Nadd manifested in the room. He looked down at the dying king, coldly refusing to save him, declaring that his time had passed. Nadd then turned his spectral gaze toward the gathered Jedi, delivering a chilling, prophetic taunt before vanishing into the ether: the Jedi had won the day, but one of them already belonged to the dark side.

Outro

With King Ommin dead, the rebellion collapsed. The Galactic Republic placed Iziz under temporary martial law to restore absolute order. The sarcophagi of Queen Amanoa, King Ommin, and Freedon Nadd were finally transported to the obsidian vaults of Dxun, sealed away behind heavy Mandalorian iron walls in hopes that their evil would be contained forever.

But the ripples of the Freedon Nadd Uprising changed the galaxy forever. It was during this very conflict that Satal and Aleema Keto, the spoiled heirs of the Empress Teta system, sneaked through the chaos of Iziz, met King Ommin, and were gifted a Sith amulet and a book of ancient magic—sparking the rise of the Krath cult. And, of course, Nadd’s prophecy about Ulic Qel-Droma’s eventual fall would loom heavily over the Jedi Order.

But what do you think? Was Master Arca Jeth too reckless in how he handled the aftermath of the Beast Wars? And how do you think Warb Null stacks up against other ancient Dark Jedi? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
