Cold Open

Every Padawan across the galaxy learns the same five lines: There is no emotion, there is peace. But these words weren’t handed down by the Force itself—they were penned by a scholar who despised the blade. Odan-Urr was a Draethos exile who preferred ancient history to physical combat. Yet, over his one-thousand-year lifespan, he survived the bloodiest wars of antiquity, founded the Great Library of Ossus, and single-handedly rewrote the Jedi Code. Today, we open the Holocron on the ultimate master of Battle Meditation and the keeper of the galaxy’s darkest secrets.

Intro

Greetings, my fellow Scruffy-Looking Nerf Herders, and welcome back to The Infernal Brotherhood!

When we look back at the Great Hyperspace War, we often focus on the explosive sorcery of Naga Sadow or the tragic sacrifice of Master Ooroo. But the true legacy of that era belongs to Ooroo’s prize student: Odan-Urr. He was a biological predator who chose the path of absolute peace. He didn’t want to make history; he just wanted to read it. But when the dark side threatened to consume the Galactic Republic, this quiet academic stepped out of the archives to become one of the most influential Jedi to ever live.

The Reluctant Predator

Odan-Urr belonged to the Draethos species—a race of apex predators known for their martial pride and isolationist tendencies. On a world that valued the thrill of the hunt, Odan-Urr was an anomaly. He was highly intelligent, intensely scholarly, and fundamentally peaceful. Cast out by planetary leaders who had no use for an academic, his Force sensitivity eventually led him to the remote, mountainous world of Ossus.

There, he became the apprentice of the legendary Celegian Master Ooroo. The pairing was perfect. While other Padawans trained to become warriors, Ooroo allowed his young student to spend centuries buried in ancient scrolls. Odan-Urr took a deep interest in the forgotten history of the Sith and a rare, subtle branch of the Force: Battle Meditation. He was content to live a life of quiet contemplation, but fate had other plans.

The Mind of a General

5,000 years before the Battle of Yavin, Ooroo pushed his reluctant student into the real world, assigning him to help Empress Teta unite the warring planets of the Koros system. Odan-Urr arrived in the capital of Cinnagar terrified of violence, yet his academic mind held the key to bloodless victory.

Alongside the Jedi Advisor Memit Nadill, Odan-Urr utilized his Battle Meditation during the Unification Wars. By projecting his thoughts across the battlefield, he single-handedly drained the morale of the rebel factions while fueling the Tetan army with absolute certainty. He proved that a scholar could conquer a battlefield faster than a battalion of soldiers—though the sudden reality of death and crossfire left the sensitive young Draethos deeply traumatized.

The Visions and the Senate’s Blunder

While studying in the Tetan archives, Odan-Urr was struck by a terrifying, hyper-vivid Force vision. Across the stars, on the mausoleum world of Korriban, he witnessed the funeral of Dark Lord Marka Ragnos and the furious duel between Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh. He realized that the exiled Dark Jedi of old were real, unified, and hunting for the Republic.

Odan-Urr, Memit Nadill, and Empress Teta traveled to Coruscant to sound the alarm. But the Galactic Senate, wrapped up in political bureaucracy, openly mocked the warnings of an inexperienced alien Knight. Dejected, Odan-Urr returned to Koros to prepare for the inevitable. When the explorer Jori Daragon crashed into Tetan space with a Sith tracking device attached to her hull, the nightmare became reality. Naga Sadow’s armada descended upon the Republic.

The Tragedy of Kirrek and the Dark Artifact

During the catastrophic Battle of Kirrek, Sadow’s savage Massassi warriors swarmed the Republic’s citadel. Odan-Urr attempted to use his Battle Meditation, but the single-minded fury of the Sith behemoths was completely immune to his influence. The lines broke.

To save his student, Master Ooroo sacrificed himself, shattering his own life-support tank to release a cloud of toxic cyanogen gas that choked out the Massassi legions. Odan-Urr watched his beloved mentor die in an environment rich with toxic oxygen.

Following the Republic’s costly victory, a grieving Odan-Urr explored the wreckage of a derelict Sith warship. Deep within its hull, he discovered an intact, glowing Sith Holocron belonging to Naga Sadow. While such an object would corrupt almost any other Jedi, Odan-Urr’s absolute devotion to the light allowed him to study it safely, using its forbidden data to track down and systematically strip the remaining Sith survivors of their Force abilities using the permanent power of Sever Force.

Founding the Archives and Clarifying the Code

Honoring his master’s final words, Odan-Urr returned to Ossus and founded the Great Jedi Library. He spent the next several centuries serving as the Keeper of the Chamber of Antiquities. He constructed the dark-side vaults like an intricate maze, ensuring that dangerous knowledge—including his captured Sith Holocron—could only be accessed under strict Jedi Council supervision.

During these centuries of quiet contemplation, Odan-Urr revolutionized the Jedi Order. Recognizing that many students found the ancient tenets of the Order convoluted and frustratingly vague, he streamlined and clarified the philosophy. He wrote The Teachings of Master Odan-Urr, formalizing the modern version of the Jedi Code. His writings on emotional clarity, mindfulness, and the heavy moral responsibility of igniting a lightsaber became the standard curriculum for the next four millennia, lasting all the way until the Great Jedi Purge.

The Conclave of Deneba and the Final Confrontation

By 3997 BBY, Odan-Urr was a legendary figure—venerated, ancient, and well over a thousand years old. When a dark side cult known as the Krath overthrew the Empress Teta system using the very Sith archives Odan-Urr had translated centuries prior, the old master called a massive Conclave at Mount Meru on the planet Deneba.

The assembly turned into a massacre when the Krath unleashed a wave of corrupted droids specifically programmed to target the wisest Jedi Masters. Though his fragile body was too weak to fight, Odan-Urr survived the onslaught thanks to a protective ring of loyal Padawans.

But the Great Sith War had begun. Shortly after, the newly christened Dark Lord of the Sith, Exar Kun, infiltrated the Great Library on Ossus. Kun sought the prize Odan-Urr had guarded for a thousand years: Naga Sadow’s Dark Holocron.

The ancient Draethos stood his ground, refusing to yield the artifact to the young intruder. But Odan-Urr was a scholar, not a duelist. Rather than drawing a blade, Exar Kun lashed out with a wave of pure, concentrated dark side telekinesis. The fragile, millenia-old Master was crushed by the sheer impact, becoming one with the Force right there in his beloved library. To cover his tracks, Kun stole the holocron and lied to the arriving Jedi, claiming that Odan-Urr had peacefully passed away after granting him the rank of Jedi Master.

Outro

Odan-Urr began his journey as an exile who feared the chaos of the galaxy, yet he died protecting its history. He proved that the pen can be infinitely more powerful than the lightsaber. Without his meticulous preservation of knowledge and his refinement of the Code, the Jedi Order would have fractured long before the rise of the Empire. Though Exar Kun took his life, he could never erase the words that guided generations of peacekeepers across the stars.

What do you think of Odan-Urr’s legacy? Do you think the Jedi Code he wrote was too strict, or was it exactly what the galaxy needed? Let me know in the comments!
